Interview with nelsondepaula
Time to get to know a bit more about nelsondepaula. You've seen the work, let's hear a little something about the person.Give us a short introduction about you.
I m only a poet.
All the time I look for the bellowed treasure of the signs, that s hidden someplace between me and the heaven.
I believe the artist is the bridge for the new time, because live into her mind the gnomes, earth’s lords eating and sleeping at the great blue door named eternity.
If you can see in the middle of ocean one little pearl that s me, like a vampire chained thru the crown of sea’s king.
Where did you grow up? Tell us a little story about the young you.
I remember my youth with pleasure. It s a free and dream time.
I was born in São Paulo, Brasil, but for me my neighboring was a magical and universal land, with great adventures and extraordinary witches.
One day I meet a priest walking alone around the church. I stay for long time just a think about that strange scene.
Then he asked me: do you believe it s impossible unbroken the broken chain of your fate?
Then he gives to me two pieces of paper and one pencil.
I don t know why, but after the dinner I was painting for the first time in my life.
What aspect of yourself really stands out? Any peculiar habits or odd fascinations?
If I can see my soul in a mirror, certainly I will see a little rabbit run around the grass, with no preoccupation but only smile when the rain comes and the clouds cry into the horizon.
My great habit is the web like a real window to another worlds and people. Art is my religion, all the artists are the sons of God, blessed creatures with the marvelous fate of live all your life telling stories.
What is that common every day thing that can really make your day?
I awake, love, work, love, work and love. All the days I meet the force that makes the reality real and I whisper for new moments to spend new dreams of hope. I see simple things and they are my breakfast and my dinner. I walk and I talk with stars and dogs and I see in the sky one ufo with great lights then I return to my home to sleep very well.
Is there a typical topic, story or concept that fuels your creations? Where does that fascination come from?
I feel into my veins thousands of little but powerful, aliens crying together to force me to write, to paint, to run for every place looking for ideas. Time is my air, there s no distance between me and the infinity, only the clouds of the space and the thunder of the gates of heaven when my eyes wide open.
Are you part of a collective or group? Would you recommend it to others and why?
I m a lonely rider that loves the storms. If I can I want to fly across the hurricanes forever with no other sounds but only the fury of the winds. Long time ago I was part of the Sao Paulo City s surrealist group , with Sergio Lima, Dora Monteiro, Leila Ferraz and another great artists
Visual artists and music is like cookies and milk, does music do anything for you?
Music is color, rainbow is all notes. Must things and spirits lives in the same home, each way for all and each time for nobody and nothing. I think God is a very good sign maker and very nice song maker.
Which artists really influence you?
I’m swimming into the memories of great artists: Max Ernst, Picasso, Dali, Renoir, Degas, Di Cavalcanti, Toulouse Lautrec, Rembrandt …
I see me like a son of surrealism, with all the dreams and broken mirrors, but when I was a child I see the magic of the pop art and I listened rock and roll music and the I fly to another worlds …
Which artists do you consider to be the great ones of this time?
I believe there are some kinds of great artist, with beautiful works, In my country I see every day new names and jobs. But I love Claudio Willer and Floriano Martins. And I love the master Sergio Lima.
